Join Chicago Printers Guild member Nia Easley in conversation with Scout Bratt from the Chicago Women's Health Center and Marnie Galloway, cartoonist and illustrator, as they discuss the cross-section of art and health using zines as a medium. Nia will then lead a zine workshop for participants.
A Body of Knowledge (on display June 2-August 20, 2025), curated by Nia Easley, showcases works from the
Joan Flasch Artists' Book Collection zine and artists’ book collection as well as from Nia's personal collection. Centering zines distributed by the Chicago Women's Health Center, the exhibition highlights both historical materials and contemporary works about women's health—which often have to be transmitted in clandestine ways. Through networks of small press and underground publications, we have been able to share knowledge essential to women's health and survival. As a parallel, the artists’ book format allows nuanced individual stories to be told. Women's health is directly tied to women's ability to vocalize their position and contribute to established bodies of knowledge. This requires equal rights which encompasses not only health care, but also workplace safety, legal frameworks, and the prism of our social lives.
Following the program, participants are encouraged to visit the 9th floor Special Collections exhibit: All for Print. Print for All. Archiving 16 Years of the Chicago Printers Guild where you can view Nia Easley's "The Last Green Book" on display.
