Cross Pollination: a Hand Papermaking at Chicago Pulp
Thank you to everyone who pulled up for Cross Pollination: a Hand Papermaking Workshop with the Chicago Printers Guild at Chicago Pulp (@chicagopulp) this past Saturday.
Folks spent the afternoon learning hand papermaking techniques using cotton, abaca, and sisal fibers through demos and hands-on studio time. Throughout the workshop, we experimented with sheet formation, embedded materials, pigments, layering, texture, and translucency while exploring both Eastern and Western papermaking approaches.
People moving between vats and worktables, sharing processes, troubleshooting together, testing materials, and building a wide range of handmade sheets. It was great seeing different approaches to pulp drawing, texture, and material experimentation develop throughout the afternoon.
BIG UP to the Chicago Pulp team for hosting us and for continuing to create access to papermaking tools, knowledge, and infrastructure outside of traditional institutional spaces.
